* Challenging sections:
2 difficult sections:
- the climb to Plaine Joux
From Passy, the climb to Plaine Joux covers around 14 km with a total elevation gain of nearly 900 m. From the very first few kilometres, the gradient is demanding, with sections consistently between 7% and 8%.
The most challenging section comes before reaching the plateau, with several sustained gradients approaching 9%, requiring careful pacing.
The arrival at Plaine Joux, however, offers a superb panorama of the Mont Blanc massif – a well-deserved reward after the effort.
- The climb to Bettex via Les Granges
Less busy than the main climb, this wilder and more uneven ascent holds a few pleasant surprises. From Saint-Gervais, the road rises gradually before becoming steeper in the Les Granges area.
The gradients frequently fluctuate between 7 and 9%, with several narrower and more technical sections. Some steeper sections will require you to maintain your pace without pushing yourself too hard.
A demanding but enjoyable climb, in peaceful surroundings, with a lovely mountain atmosphere right up to the finish at Le Bettex.
The return to La Giettaz is a mere formality.
