Description
The Sorbonne University Choir, conducted by Frédéric Pineau, brings together more than 50 young singers for a program dedicated to childhood and the cycle of life. Blending traditions from around the world with contemporary compositions, this is a moving and universal concert.
A poetic meditation on the first awakenings to the world, on a being in the making and yet already very much present. As they so often do, the choir and its conductor Frédéric Pineau take on a universal theme and explore its representations across ages and cultures. Maternal and paternal figures, attachment to the land, the passage of time: these are the themes woven through the music in what constitutes the “cycle of life.” From one continent to another, nursery rhymes and lullabies accompany a child’s first steps and are reimagined—with no shortage of creativity—by contemporary composers. This program, a joyful ode to childhood, at times tinged with a certain melancholy, explores our memories and the child we still carry within each of us.
