The Alpine Arc has always been a region rich in folk culture. Rooted in the traditional, hard-won lives of mountain dwellers, the tales, legends, songs and dance tunes bear witness to those bygone days when, before the development of tourism, the mountain regions were poor and life was hard. Drawing directly on local research, fieldwork and encounters with former musicians, these repertoires take us on a journey through the regions of Savoy, the Dauphiné, Piedmont, Tyrol and the Aosta Valley. The joy is infectious, the conviviality assured; beyond the music lies the way of life of the mountain people.
