TO KNOW : The Crest-Voland Cohennoz ski resort was born in 1951 with the construction by pioneers of the village and the surroundings of the 1st ski lift: the Lachat (replaced in 1999 by a chairlift). Setting up a station in this isolated corner was a bit of a gamble because road access was difficult, and there was then only one hotel and a ski shop. But at that time mountain agriculture was in crisis and the villages were depopulated. Thanks to the relentlessness of the mountaineers, the abundant snow and the development of skiing, the resort developed and tourism became the main activity.

TO KNOW : Long dependent on the Church of St Nicolas, the inhabitants of this hamlet had to wait until the beginning of the 19th century before having their own place of worship, first a chapel, then a Church. And it is to one of these many Savoyard emigrants that they owe it: Joachim Dumax Baudron, born in Chaucisse in 1750 and who, having become the cook of a Marshal of Napoleon, offered his native parish the means to build a school and a chapel. Built in 1818 with the help of the inhabitants, it was raised to the rank of Church in 1828.

Continue towards the houses. The route ends at the RD71A, opposite the Reys ski lift. Return by the same route or along the RD71A. TO KNOW : Until 1585, Crest-Voland was only a hamlet of St Nicolas la Chapelle. The crestvolantins were forced to walk at least 2 hours across a forest path, then to cross the Arly on wooden walkways, to get to the parish church. The danger of the journey and the distance were the arguments which made it possible to erect Crest-Voland in an autonomous parish.
